About Trey Long, CPA

I was born and raised in rural Oklahoma, so you might pick up a southwestern accent when you hear me talk.

As a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Business Administration, I majored in Accounting and minored in Finance. I passed the entire CPA exam on the first sitting in 1989, which only 10% of exam takers accomplished then.

After graduation, I worked in “Big 8” public accounting for two years.  Then I pivoted and earned a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from Washington University in St. Louis and embarked on a career in medical group management.  I was passionate about helping other people by improving the patient experience.

I’ve been an executive in publicly traded companies, not-for-profit and private equity-backed organizations. In these roles, I was responsible for multi-state operating units with annual revenues of approximately $400 million, employing over 700 clinicians.  I was very much a fiscally-minded operations leader.

In 2022 after a 30+ year career, I decided to “hang-up my cleats” in physician practice management and become semi-retired.  I was able to achieve this at the age of 57 years by having no debt and achieving the Ramsey Solutions Baby Step 7 by paying off my house.  I chose to become a Ramsey Solutions Certified Master Financial Coach as a way to help people achieve financial peace.

I reside in Scottsdale, AZ, next to the McDowell Mountain Range.  This suits my lifestyle, and my past times are hiking, mountain biking, jogging, and standup paddle boarding.

Active in the community, I volunteer at the Phoenix Dream Center, a not-for-profit organization committed to fighting human sex trafficking and assisting survivors of human trafficking.
